• Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows determined that the U.S. Constitution bars Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s primary ballot—citing his involvement in riots outside the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. In her 34-page decision, Secretary Bellows accuses Trump of engaging in insurrection and, consequently, determines he is ineligible to hold office under the Fourteenth Amendment. Interestingly, despite calls from the Lieutenant Governor to “explore every legal option” to remove Trump from the ballot, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber said the former president would remain on the state’s primary ballot. Trump has officially appealed Maine’s decision.
• Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas basely blamed the migrant crisis at the U.S. Southern border on Texas Governor Greg Abbott—failing to accept any blame for the Biden Administration’s relaxed border security policies.
• Speaking to the press on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that H.R.2- Secure the Border Act of 2023, which has passed in the House, will not pass in the Senate.
• CNN reports that the House Committee on Homeland Security is expected to formally begin impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for his failures to secure the U.S. Southern border.
• During Wednesday’s White House press briefing, Fox News journalist Jacqui Heinrich grilled Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre over the Biden Administration’s failed U.S. Southern border policies which have resulted in a record number of unlawful border crossings.
