Plus, I have a bizarre story about a YouTuber proposal and we have an interview with the wonderful and insightful Taylor Lorenz, a name that is hard for me to say. This is not my first take. I'm trying to say that name. The wonderful Taylor Lerre... Taylor Rends. And Taylor Rends will be here. The Knights of Renn will be here. Plus, we have crowd favorites like like questions from the audience and true YouTube of facts and more, no more, on this week's edition of the YouTube News podcast.

Oh boy, another episode of the podcast, and I want to thank you so much for listening every week and for all the people who have reviewed and rated on iTunes. We're doing really nicely there. Much higher rated than I expected or in many ways deserve. But thank you so much for tuning in and supporting the show. It's wonderful. It's really fun for me to do. And I want to keep doing it forever and ever until I perish. So thank you for supporting the show. Now, we've got some great stories for you today. I say great. They're not really news. No one cares about them, but they're fun, aren't they? Isn't that the spirit of YouTube? No one cares about it, but it's fun. We've got one about Tanner, we've got Shane and Jeffrey. But before that, I'd like to talk to you about something that I experienced at the weekend to do with YouTubers. Now, I was watching a video by a young man, I can't remember his name,

1:28.0

and it was a video where he was proposing to his girlfriend. I can't remember exactly why I was watching this video, but the point is he was doing a big YouTuber proposal video, which means it was 21 minutes long when it could have been three minutes long. And I'm not going to lie, this guy, he seemed a bit annoying, but as a video went on, it was quite sweet. He got a lovely ring. He went into a giant

1:25.3

sunflower field to propose

1:27.4

because his now fiancé, his now fiancé, had said that she always wanted to be proposed to in a lovely sunflower field. And he went there and he had it all ready. She arrived and she burst into tears. And he did a really lovely, surprisingly lovely speech. and he proposed. And you know what? I thought, maybe I'm just cynical. Maybe I'm just cold-hearted like Scrooge McDuck. And I don't believe in love anymore. And I don't believe in YouTube anymore. And actually, I've been too hard on this guy, because that was a wonderful proposal. And congratulations to them both. But then he said, I've got another surprise for you, baby, baby girl. He said, I had a chat to my merch people. And at this point, my ears pricked up. And he said, and they've worked up something special for us both. And he pulled out a t-shirt in a plastic bag. This is in the sunflower field. She's just been proposed to. She's over the moon, she can barely contain herself. He's pulling out a t-shirt in a bag and he's got a t-shirt in a plastic bag. This is in the sunflower field. She's just been proposed to. She's over

2:34.2

the moon. She can barely contain herself. He's pulling out a t-shirt in a bag, and he's got a t-shirt for her that said, I said yes, and he makes her put it on. She seems very confused. And then he pulls out another t-shirt that says, I saw her say yes, and makes his mate put it on. And then the words, I kid you not, proposal

2:32.0

merch is now available,

2:34.0

appears on the screen in giant letters. I nearly screamed out loud. And if you go on his website, you can buy a t-shirt that says, I saw her say yes. And you can buy that merch. And most of the rest of the video, he has just proposed, she's in tears. Most of the rest of the video he has just proposed she's in tears

3:07.5

most of the rest of the video is him talking about how you can now buy these t-shirts and it is one

3:12.7

of the most beautifully nightmarish youtube things i've ever seen he really he had been going in the

3:18.8

first half but my god it became about the merch and i not going to lie, I might buy one of these shirts

3:24.5

because I'm fascinated by them. Imagine you're walking down the street and you're wearing a t-shirt that says, I saw her say yes. And someone comes up to you and they're like, oh, nice t-shirt. Like, what is this? You got engaged? Oh, no, no, I didn't get engaged. Oh, someone you know got engaged. No, no, I don't know them, but you saw someone on the street get engaged?

3:23.6

No, I watched a video of a YouTuber where they got engaged and then I bought a t-shirt to remember the time I watched that video. Right, so it should really say I watched her say. It should say I watched her say yes, yeah, but, you know, maybe say flows better. So, but I was so touched when I watched

3:59.2

them get engaged in a video that I bought a t-shirt and I'm going to wear it every day. So I will

4:03.0

be buying one of those t-shirts for myself and for all of my family members for Christmas. And

4:07.5

I just want to say to those people, I can't remember their names. Congratulations, I guess. It seemed like

4:13.0

a lovely proposal, but hey, maybe the lesson of today's podcast is

4:17.1

Not Everything Needs to Be merch. Hashtag, Not Everything Needs to Be Merch, and I am dropping Not Everything Needs to Be merch. Merch that will be coming out at the end of this episode. If you want to get a tote bag or perhaps glove that says, not everything needs to be merch.
