On Friday, May 12, 1961, three forest service employees were returning from a conference.

That route took them over the Crooked River Bridge.

When one of the men glanced over the edge, he saw two objects lying on the canyon floor

below.

Initially, he believed they were dolls, much like the idea they might have been mannequins,

but we all know, it's never a mannequin.

Years later, firefighters would scale that cliff face and make a horrific discovery.

The dolls were actually the bodies of two young children, a boy and a girl, and authorities

would find a gruesome clue.

In the little girl's fist was a clump of hair, her mother's hair.
