Jay, thanks for joining us, man. Good to hear from you. Hey, buddy. Good morning. 30 years you guys have been around. Yeah. That is crazy. Crazy, dude. You're right. So what did you think, man? A lot of us feel like kind of from afar. It's kind of overwhelming. But it looks like the commanders were in a lot of guys. The market was just too crazy. Yeah, that's the way it is. It's going to be like that forever now. You know, you've got the portal nowadays in college football and NFL three agency. It's a frenzy and it's important to try to get a few guys out of free agency so you don't go into the draft bare naked. So luckily they addressed a couple needs. They got a nickel back in from Detroit. They got the defensive end from the Chargers. They got my guy Tim Settle back who he drafted a long time ago. So they dressed a few, few guys. So now they can kind of freewheel it in the draft. Hopefully the running back from Notre Dame's there or somebody that can really make some things happen offensively for them in the draft. Coach, give us your intel on Settle. Like he wasn't a high draft pick, but he's a guy who's made himself a nice career in the league. Now with the second stint with the commanders should help the defensive line. Depth there. Definitely. He's a depth player. You know, he can do a lot of different things. He can rush a pastor pretty good. He can play the run pretty good. He's definitely a good rotational type guy to keep your main guys fresh. So when you take out Kenlaw, you take out pain, you bring Settlement, you lose a little bit, but not a lot because he plays the great effort. He's got good hands, and he can get out for the quarterback somewhat. So definitely a good ad for them for the depth of defense the line. So, Jay, Jeremiah Love is tantalizing. The fans want to draft them. You alluded to him. But how much of a need is running back? Like on a scale of one to ten, you know, bills, Chris Rodriguez, McNichols, they seem to do a decent job. And if you look at the rankings in terms of rushing last year, they were they were amongst the top teams. Now that, of course, includes quarterback rushing. How much of a need is it, do you think, for them to get a playmaker like Jeremiah Love? I think the guys they had are pretty good, but they're not Jeremiah Love. I think you're talking about a different category of athlete when you're talking about Jeremiah. I love. This guy, 1, 220, 215 pounds, a 4-340. This guy's explosive. He's a big play waiting to happen. And these other running backs that they have on the roster right now are pretty good, but they don't have the explosiveness that Jeremiah Love has. So you add him and stand him next to Jay Daniels. He have two guys that are running four, three right next to each other. It is a scary situation for the defense. I think it would be a perfect fit for Washington to get him if he's there. Do you like what you're hearing that they're going to change the offensive philosophy to have Jaden under center a lot more? I like that a lot i think um anytime you can mix it up a little |
| 3:09.9 | but obviously jaden is excellent out of the shotgun with his own reeds and the r pos and things of that |
| 3:13.7 | nature but under center with the play action passes if you get a running back like jeremiah i love |
| 3:18.1 | any run even bill mary even the guys they have i just think the ability to do the play action the |
| 3:22.5 | bootlegs and get jane outside the pocket will be a benefit to the offense. Anytime you can do under-center stuff to mix it up with the shotgun stuff, I think it benefits the offense without a doubt. All right, coach. So today and day two, what's the number one need in free agency, in your opinion? I think we've got to address the internal offensive line a little bit. Chris Paul, I believe, is a free agent, so we've got to get another internal offensive lineman. I would love to see a receiver get picked up somewhere. There's some good receivers out there, a veteran-type receiver that can go along, Terry, and obviously McCaffrey and, you know, Berks came on and played some pretty good ball. I don't |
| 3:58.4 | know what they're doing, Debo, Samuel, and O'Brown, but I think another wide receiver. But tight end, is there a tight end out there? Tight end, I think, is the biggest need. Zekerts coming off the injury. You know, Bates is more of a blocker. Sanat, I think, has been disappointing. He has not emerge as a tight and I think they hoped they drafted. So I think tight end is a very, very |
| 4:16.3 | much needed position on this roster right now. And obviously, linebacker with Bobby Wagner, you know, and not knowing what Bobby Wagner's going to do, I think, is a need as well. They got a lot of needs. They got like four or five. You know, Jay, when you were here, you were kind of famously quoted about like drafted a guard |
| 4:32.9 | and, you know, kind of downplaying a little bit, the significance of the interior alignment. |
| 4:39.1 | But can you talk about how important it is to have a good center? |
| 4:43.3 | Oh, it's huge. |
| 4:44.4 | I mean, the center controls everything. |
| 4:46.0 | He starts with the line calls and he's touching the ball first on every play, and he's communicating to the other offensive linemen, and the ability for him to get up to the next level on these own records, outside zones, and pass protections, making sure that Mike's right and able to flip protections on the fly. |
| 5:01.5 | Very, very important to have a good smart center, and people underestimate the needs or the value of a good center. I mean, we had Corey Lichtenstager, my first year. He was little, but he was awesome, very smart. And we went and tried to get Spencer along. And then we kept adding center. Centers, you don't want to mess with the center position. This guy touches all every play and communicates everything with the offensive alignment. Now, it's only a backup quarterback, but are you okay with bringing Marcus back for a year? I like Marcus. You know, I'm just concerned about his injury history, but he's a good player. Hopefully he doesn't have to play. That's the biggest thing. Let's keep him on the bench and warm up with Jaden Daniels on the sidelines in between series and that's it. |
| 5:38.2 | Let's keep Jaden healthy. |
| 5:39.2 | But Marcus has proven to be a good player when he comes and he wants some games and he can |
| 5:43.3 | run and do similar things that Jaden can do. |
| 5:46.0 | So it's very important to have your backup quarterback that can do similar things that |
