Market got you down?

How's your portfolio doing so far in 2022?

Yeah, I thought so.

Mine's not doing too well either.

In fact, all of the gains that I made last year in 2021 have been wiped out in just this first month of the year.

And we're not even done yet, right?

But if you were an investor who can measure her experience in years, if not decades,

then you absolutely understand that this happens.

This is normal that the stock market always goes down faster than it goes up,

but as I hasten to add, it always goes up more than it goes down, which is good news.

And good news too that if you're doing it right, if you're a rule breaker investor you are regularly somewhat mechanically

plowing your precious savings into the market with every paycheck month

after month and so you know that when the market gets whacked as it has

this month as it did one really bad spring just two years ago you know that looking backward from the future you're going to appreciate

getting the entry points and cost bases afforded you during this month's down draft.

So it may not feel good right now,

but it's going to look good.

And as Billy Crystal once said, over and over, impersonating Fernando Lamas on Saturday

Night Live for the old hands among us and Lamas was right it's better to look good

than to feel good.

And so you look marvelous.
