Hi friends, I am Annie F. Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships and the parables, the sacrifices, the meals, the miracles.

We will read three chapters a day and finish in 30 days, so each month we'll read all four books.

Welcome to the second week of January. We started with the book of John and now we'll jump into Luke this week.

I'm going to read three chapters to you. I'll read the chapter number and any titles in my Bible about that section.

You can listen or read along in your own Bible and then I'll pray and that's it.

So today is January 8th, day 8, and I'll be reading Luke chapters 1 through 3.

And the translation I'm reading from this month is NIV 84.

Luke chapter 1, introduction.

Many have undertaken to drop an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us,

just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word.

Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent theophilus,

so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

The birth of John the Baptist foretold.

In the time of Herod, King of Judea, there was a priest named Zachariah, who belonged to the pre-sleep division of Abysia.

His wife, Elizabeth, was also a descendant of Aaron.

Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's commandments and regulations blamelessly.

But they had no children because Elizabeth was barren and they were both well along in years.

Once, when Zachariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood,

to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.

And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.
