Good morning, everyone. I am playbook co-author Eugene Daniels. It is Monday, January 6th. Welcome

back to school kids. Happy New Year. Hope you guys got a little bit of time off. Most of you didn't,

I'm aware. But here is what's driving the day.

Today at noon, the newly sworn in members of the House and Senate will meet on Capitol Hill for a joint session of Congress at which they'll certify the results of the 2024 election.

And unlike what happened four years ago, every indication is that things will go more or less like they're

supposed to. No riots, no Trump supporters. Storming the Capitol, no delays, and certifying the

electoral college count. Of course, a few things are different this time. There's a gigantic

fencing system up around the Capitol. An overnight snowstorm made it difficult

to get around the city, and no Democratic leaders are doing what many Republican leaders did

four years ago by publicly questioning the validity of the election results. Vice President

Kamala Harris will preside over the proceedings as vice president. She's president of the Senate. And in a video

out this morning, she vowed to fulfill her quote, sacred obligation and affirm Trump's

victory against her. You can follow all the action today at political.com. With Congress back

in session and Republicans now in control of both the House and the Senate,

there's a lot to watch for on Capitol Hill, especially as the GOPI is a trifecta in just two weeks' time.

You reported over the weekend that President-elect Trump wants, quote, one big, beautiful reconciliation

package. That's somewhat in line with what Speaker Mike Johnson had planned, but a bit of a different

approach than what John Thune, who's the Senate Majority Leader over there, have been pushing for.

What's the thinking here and how are they going to get on one page?
