Summary

This isn't really the show yet. The intro doesn't sound the same. The sound doesn't sound the same (it'll take awhile before that gets locked in, and even then, Scott falls into a well at one point). And you'll notice this is a whole month of movies done in less than 40 minutes. That sure as hell never happens again, either. These are the humble beginnings of '80s All Over, a five-year mission that began with, of all the films; CAN’T STOP THE MUSIC, THE CHANGELING, DIE LAUGHING, HANGAR 18, HARDLY WORKING, HOW TO BEAT THE HIGH COST OF LIVING, THE BLACK MARBLE, and JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT.

There are few decades in film history that have been written about and even fetishized as much as the 1980s.

But to really understand the decade and its movies, it's going to take

0:21.5

a couple some ones who were there for it the first time around. Drew McQueenie and Scott Weinberg

0:26.6

are ready to review every major film of the decade one month at a time. They'll look at what

worked then, what endures now, and how it felt to be there when it all went down.

1:32.7

that were released that month. I'm Drew McQueenie and I'm joined as always by my co-host here in the show.

Scott Weinberg. Scott, how you doing today? Very good, Drew. Welcome to the inaugural episode.

1:43.5

Fair warning to our first time listeners, which you all are.

January of 1980, not a great year, even for somebody like me who loves movie year 1980.

1:55.4

Yeah, this is a pretty rocky month of movies, but that's kind of a great way to jump in because it's going to show you how every month during a calendar year during that decade worked. And look, some months were

2:05.7

phenomenal, some months weren't. There's going to be months where it feels like we have 700

2:10.1

movies we can't wait to discuss. And I know there's a month coming up during this year where I think

2:14.2

we have three movies total. That's just going to be the ups and downs of the series, but that's part of what we're talking

2:19.4

about is the way release schedules worked back then and what it was like to be a movie fan

2:23.6

when you had this lineup in theaters.

2:26.1

And one thing that I think younger movie fans can't really relate to all that much is

2:31.9

if you were a hardcore movie nerd back then, you didn't have many
