| 1:05.8 | such an increase is a 44% increase in the price of passenger transport by air. |
| 1:13.0 | And I wanted to look at that and explain why that's happened and what might happen next. |
| 1:20.4 | Now, if you go back a year, which I've done, to look at the International Air Transport Association Jet Fuel Price Index. |

| 1:31.1 | It's exactly one third higher this week than it was a year ago |
| 1:35.7 | before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. |
| 1:40.3 | In that time, it's soared over 70% higher than what the actual cost a year ago. |
| 1:51.2 | And that, of course, increases the costs for airlines. |
| 1:55.7 | Now, the exact price they pay will differ according to what sort of fuel contracts they have. |
| 2:01.6 | Many of them are hedged. |
| 2:03.5 | But as a very rough index, one third hire looks pretty good. |
| 2:08.2 | That certainly matches what Ryanair was saying yesterday about their cost increases. |
