Hello and welcome to today's independent travel podcast with me, Simon, called her it's Wednesday the 15th of January.

You may have heard over the past few months a number of stories about how people have been prosecuted by various train operators' revenue protection departments, And the Office of Rail and Road is looking into these,

and it actually wants to hear from people who perhaps have had experiences of paying a fair penalty

or even faced prosecution for being accused of not having the right ticket.

The director of the Office of Rail and Road responsible for this is Stephanie Tobin and

I'm delighted to say she joins me. Stephanie, what exactly are you looking at?

Hi Simon, well thank you for speaking to me today. So what we're

really interested in is the experience of passengers who've, exactly as you've said, they've perhaps

been on a train with the wrong ticket or they may have been on a train with no ticket and

then they've been subject to a penalty fair. And worse so, some of these cases, they can actually escalate to prosecution.

And so what we're really interested in is the experience of passengers in these different

scenarios so that we can make recommendations back to government about how things may be

changed to make this perhaps fairer, more transparent or more proportionate for passengers.
