Good Friday morning and welcome to your Politico Playbook audio briefing. Expanded testing,

faster vaccine deployment, and $1,400 stimulus checks. All that and more, President-elect Joe Biden says,

is on the horizon shortly after he takes office at a price tag of nearly $2 trillion.

Biden gave a speech yesterday in his home base of Wilmington, Delaware, where he called on Congress to quickly pass the massive relief package soon after his inauguration.

Olstein and Adam Cancran report, Biden's central message is this. The federal government is finally ready to meet the moment

and will no longer leave financially struggling states on their own. Across a planned

two-day rollout of his pandemic strategy, Biden will also propose creating a federal public

health corps of 100,000 people, and deploying them to states to staff vaccination sites, bolster contact tracing,

and launch new programs to better reach rural communities. The ambitious plan comes, of course,

as the coronavirus is still raging in the U.S. On Thursday alone, nearly 4,000 deaths and 223,000 new cases. A person close to Biden says he knows his legacy

will be tied to how he responds to this pandemic. But this latest call to action will still have to

run through a sharply polarized Congress where, yes, Democrats will have majorities in both

chambers after last week's Georgia wins, but only

by slim margins.

And let's not forget the fact that President Trump's impeachment trial is set to collide

directly with Biden's inauguration.

Unless all 100 senators give unanimous consent to come back from recess early and

provided the House sends its article of

impeachment to the Senate by January 19th, Trump's trial for incitement of insurrection will start
