When Jan Arden was a kid growing up in Springbank, Alberta, she played hockey for about six

or seven years. During that time, her mom, Joan, wasn't a fan of sitting in freezing cold

arenas watching Jan's games and practices.

So she looked at some adult continuing education programs that coincided with her daughter's time on the ice, and what she found were guitar lessons.

But Joan's musical journey was short-lived.

She eventually gave up playing the acoustic guitar when her fingers got sore.

And that's when Jan started playing, and she never stopped.
