Hello and welcome to Storytime for grownups.

I'm Faith Moore, and this season we're reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Each episode, I'll read one chapter from the book,

pausing from time to time to give brief explanations so it's easier to follow along.

It's like an audiobook with built-in notes.

So brew a pot of tea, find a cozy chair,

and settle in. I got lots and lots of emails this time about this chapter because it's a fantastic chapter. I confess that every copy that I own of Jane Eyre that has one of those ribbon

bookmarks, you know, the ones that are attached to the book, the ribbon is at Chapter 23.

That's where I like to keep my ribbon and I like to refer back to Mr.

Rochester's proposal and I'll talk a little bit more, I think, about why that might be

in our question section for the day. But just for now, suffice it to say that I am with you.

I have a lot to say about chapter 23, as do you, and thank you for sending in all of your thoughts

and comments, and there were lots, lots of different ones, lots of different people feeling

different ways about the fact that Mr. Rochester has proposed to Jane. So we're going to talk

about it, and we're going to find out what happens next, because as a couple of people wrote in to say, hmm, if this were

a Hallmark movie or a romance book, this would be the end. The man proposed to the woman,

the end. But we have quite a lot of book left. Remember, there are 38 chapters and we're about

to read chapter 24. So we're not done yet. So what will happen now is the question I think on everybody's
