Reporters Awards Podcast, I'm the host Scott Feinberg, and my guest today is a New

Zealander who is universally regarded as one of the great filmmakers of our time, and

arguably the greatest female filmmaker of all time.

His project's dating back 40 years, including 1989's Sweetie, 1993's The Piano, 1996's

The Portrait of a Lady, 2009's Brightstar, and 2021's The Power of the Dog, all of which

have played at the world's major film festivals from Sundance to Cannes to Venice, and which

have brought her international acclaim and recognition, including Cannes Palm Door.

For both best short and feature film, she was the first woman ever to win the latter,

and Venice's Silver Lion for Best Director, as well as the best original screenplay Oscar,

and which also led her to become only the second woman ever nominated for the Best Director

Oscar, and 28 years after that, the first and only woman ever nominated for the Best

Director Oscar twice.

This year she has won Best Director, Director's Guild, Golden Globe, Critics Choice,

BAFTA, LA Film Critics Association, and New York Film Critics Circle Awards, with

an Oscar likely to follow for The Power of the Dog, the most Oscar-nominated film of

the year with 12 mentions.

The New York Times has called her not only, quote, a major writer and director, but also

quote, one of modern cinema's great explorers of female sexuality, close quote, and someone

who, quote, has transformed all her influences into films that are among the most impressive

being made by her generation anywhere in the world, close quote.
