Welcome to the beat, I'm Ari Melber. We're reporting on this first day since both sides have now rested in Trump's criminal trial.

The scenes we've been following like this, courtesy of the sketch artist, the jury likely to begin deliberating next week in what is now the only

Trump case that is slated to go to a jury before this election. And that's a

scenario which has people questioning if there is real accountability.

If Donald Trump, now the nominee of the Republican Party, presumptive nominee as they say,

if he can effectively delay or punt so many of his trials, then is there accountability?

Well, it depends how you answer.

And the simple or simplified narrative, sometimes offered by various groups for various reasons don't actually

capture what's happening in these strange and extraordinary times and

that brings us to our top story right now. Here is convicted trespasser, a convicted trespasser about to explain.

You see spot shadow there from the January 6 attack.

You can see him pushing forward.

This is brazenly passing police lines to break into the capital that day. Evidence shows he

also gathered apparent weapons by breaking apart metal fencing, hiding it in his

pants pocket, and that's something he's actually admitted, speaking of accountability in his legal case.

His name is Charles Hand.

He's a 37-year-old January 6 convict from Georgia.

He is the kind of person that the Republican Party has claimed for many decades

should not even be able to vote.

The party at the state level has stripped voting rights from millions and millions of people based on exactly

these kind of criminal records.
