In Chicago, a young mother allegedly threw her two-year-old son out of an 11th floor window,

fatally stabbed her seven-month-old son and attacked her grandfather before attempting

suicide.

She survived and is facing murder and attempted murder charges.

In Texas, a man is charged with the murder of his fiance during an argument, only days

after their new year's even engagement.

Finally, in New Jersey, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office announced that 73-year-old

Richard Coddingham, a serial killer, also known as the Torso Killer, has confessed

to three cold cases from the 1960s.

CBS Chicago reports that 20-year-old Alia Newell was charged with two counts of first-degree

murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder for allegedly killing her two young

sons and stabbing her grandfather on Thursday, January 1st.

Alia tried to take her own life following the alleged attacks and was taken to a hospital

in critical condition.

She is still hospitalized and was not present in court.

Police recalled to the water's edge apartment building in the South Shore neighborhood of

Chicago at around 2am on January 1st.
