I'm Mick Garrus, and this is Postmortem.

Like every monster kid among us, I have a long and loving history with Halloween.

But besides how it has earned such a deep and permanent place in my heart personally,

it's also played a major part in my career.

Of course, writing the script for Hocus Pocus

has permanently cemented my bona fides in Halloween culture.

I also set my adaptation of Stephen King's writing the bullet

on Halloween in 1969,

and I even directed an episode of once upon a time

that takes place on Halloween.

But when it comes to the Halloween movies,

there is still a deep connection there.

The first time I met John Carpenter,

interviewed him for a magazine article in a tiny recording studio in Hollywood,
