joining me today an anthropologist and author whose latest book is entitled work a history

of how we spend our time hello and welcome james susman nice to be here thank you for having me

and we should we should say that the u.s edition of the book has a different title doesn't yeah it

does it say history it's called it's work a deep history from the image to the age of robots

interesting now that sort of changes the timber of the expectations one might go into the book with

you seem like you that that it occurred to you as well that almost seems like it maybe wasn't your

decision to change the subtitle of the book he had to hit most certainly was not i see and yeah

this is the it's the way of publishing our fears they they think american britain need different

versions and then i've got different versions for all the other countries too i see okay well we'll

see if we have time to squeeze in the robots as well i brought i brought your book up recently on

another podcast that i do in sharing something that my a story that my father has told me my father

who is in his eighties would tell me when i was younger about articles he was rating i'm going to

guess in the sixties or the seventies that would have been in you know time or newsweek or you know
