This week on London Real we have James Rhodes, a classical pianist and author of the book

Instrumental, a memoir of Madness, Medication and Music. There's most classical concerts now I don't think they really think about the audience.

It's the performer and the music.

These guys, heroic musicians, they composed and created despite the pain not because of it.

You know what you can go through five years of getting absolutely just brutally raped

you can end up trying to kill yourself you can end up with what kinds of drug addiction

issues and self-harming and almost unservivable and actually you can come out the other end and music played a big part in that.

And yet this book was almost not published.

Did you ever in your wildest dream

you think that could happen when you started writing?

No, fuck, no.

I mean, we're in Britain.

We don't ban books in this country.
