Jim, you really are like you're a

eclectic and wide-ranging and so I'm thinking of this interview just as an

introductory to introduce my audience to you because

you've written a lot of really spectacular fiction.

We were just talking about the geography of nowhere and those those three

books which are genuinely important in thinking about the world

in which we live but so getting back to fiction you you wrote four

novels that are part of the world made by hand series you call it talk about

that what is what are these novels?

Well after I wrote the long emergency which was about the possibility of our

techno industrial society actually collapsing.

I wanted to write a series of novels that would give people a tactile

and direct sense of what the experience would be like to live in the post-economic

collapse world. So I set these novels in this small town in upstate New York
