We are currently into our series on James Cook and the deep into his first voyage in which he will circumnavigate the world.

Cook had already reached Tahiti, gotten the astronomers a chance to catch the transit of Venus, mapped the region today we call the Society Islands,

and ventured south in search of Teraos, Strayless. He had not found the latter and we left him last time heading towards New Zealand.

The crew was thrilled to have left behind the stormy and frigid southern ocean.

On October 5th of 1769, look out Nicholas Young's cited land, the first the crew had seen in many months.
