I'm doing with the classicist author and broadcaster Mary Beard. Together we'll be discussing

politics and power from the Caesars to Sunak, who gets to Winpar, who is excluded. Does power

always corrupt or other examples of leaders who've maintained their integrity while an authority?

And how does the nature of power vary across different times and cultures? These are just some of

the questions that Mary and I will be trying to answer. In person tickets are now sold out,

we listen back to a live intelligent squared event staged last year with the American author

and scholar Eddie Glod. He joined us to discuss the life and legacy of James Baldwin,

the writer who's worked during the latter 20th century across novels, essays, plays and poems,

has come to be regarded as some of the most culturally important in defining the character

of the modern USA and its uneasy relationship with race and multiculturalism. Glod's book,

Begin Again, James Baldwin's America and its urgent lessons for our own, was published in 2021.

Distinguished University Professor and Chair of the Department of African American Studies at

Princeton University. He is a highly respected scholar of religion and a prominent public intellectual.
