journalism is the convo today uh a lost art uh something that you know we need to

hold near and dear based on today's climate but we are joined today by jemelle buoy uh one of the judges

for this year's sydney hillman. How you doing this morning, Jamel?

I'm doing good. Thank you for having me. No, thank you for joining the program.

The big announcement just came out, the Sydney Hillman Foundation names winners of the

2025 prizes for journalism in service of the common good.

First of all, talk to us about this award.

How long have you been involved as being one of the judges?

Sure.

So the Sydney Hillman Foundation is named after Sidney Hillman, a labor leader in the 1940s,

a close confidant of FDR during his presidency, and kind of a major force for just furthering the interest of workers and organized labor at the time. The foundation has been giving out the prize for decades,

I want to say since the 1950s, and has always tried to honor journalism, as the press release

says in service of the common good but specifically

journalism that's dealing with issues of labor with civil rights human rights those sorts of things

i've been involved i want to say for four years now i i was actually a winner of the award i

believe in congratulations thank you um for opinion journalism and then the now. I was actually a winner of the award, I believe, in 2020.
