Counting is currently underway for the historic Union election at Amazon's warehouse in

Bessemer, Alabama. We'll talk to Lauren Kaori Gurley, senior staff writer at

Bice.com's Motherboard where she writes about labor and tech. Lauren's been

covering the unionization drive in Alabama for more than a year and we

talked to her today about what she has learned about Amazon's business model

and what she's learned from the workers taking on this notorious anti-union

giant during a pandemic winning widespread support across the country. All eyes

are on this titanic labor struggle in the anti-union south because it has

enormous potential to galvanize the labor movement and inspire workers far

beyond Alabama and for that reason the battle has been fierce. We get Lauren's

views. We then turn to law professor Vina Dubal who spoke with us a few

months ago about the condition of precarious platform workers, particularly in

the ride-chair companies. Vina Dubal says that the passage of Prop 22 in

California has emboldened these countries to go national and she cautions that

Prop 22 poses extreme danger to workers everywhere and will exacerbate

enormously the inequality we're already experiencing. Vina strikes a note of

hope for the new administration so far but notes that organizing will be the

key. We get her take when our program returns in just a moment.
