We focus today on two elections, one in Chicago where five to six socialists were elected to the city council, a very big deal even if they will represent just 10% of the council and the other in Israel where Netanyahu, according to

our guest Jo of Pelid, is likely to win even though his party and their block with far-right

racist and religious parties, is tied more or less with the

anti-Racist and religious parties is tied more or less with the anti-Bibee blue and white block.

Netanyahu is the longest serving prime minister in Israeli history.

He's under indictment for one case of bribery and two cases of fraud,

and Joaf says he's the only issue in the election.

We'll get him to explain what we can expect in the election, but also we'll discuss

Yowaf Pellid's new book, The Religionization of Israeli Society, which sheds light

on how the country has moved from secular Zionism to an increasingly far-right

expansionist religious Zionism and how that helps us understand the election,

the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the relation between culture, politics,

nationalism, secularization, and new social movements. And then we turn to Micah

Utrecht and he joins us from Chicago where I said five to six socialists were

just elected to the city council. Micah argues that they will have outsized

influence in determining the political issues, much as we have seen nationally

with the election of Democratic socialists to Congress.
