President Trump is back in power and immediately moved to carry out his xenophobic, cruel, hateful, and racist policies with a slew of unconstitutional executive orders and plans for mass detention and deportation of the nation's immigrants.

On today's program, we talked to three extraordinary activists whose organizations and coalitions

are building effective solidarity and defense for the about to be detained and deported.

Victor Naro, UCLA's long-time expert on

immigrant rights and low-wage workers, works in the sanctuary movement. Nanaganti of the Black

Alliance for Just Immigration and Aquilina Soriano Versosa from the Filipino workers' center

of Southern California,

explain what their black, Latino, and Filipino-led and focused organizations are doing

to counter the Trump offensive.

This is practical solidarity that builds power, and it is moving and uplifting.

I'm Susie Wiseman, and today we're going to focus on efforts from organizations who are building effective solidarity and defense for those about to be detained and possibly deported.

As we are only too well aware, President Trump is back in power and has wasted no time in trying to

implement his racist, xenophobic policies with unconstitutional executive orders and plans to

carry out his campaign promise of mass detention and deportation of the nation's immigrants. He also promised on his first day in office to close the U.S. border with Mexico and to restrict

migrants from seeking asylum.

These policies have carried out, and that's still a question, have the potential to profoundly disrupt daily life in Los Angeles and Southern California, if not, you know, all of California in the nation. But here in Los Angeles, one in three residents are immigrants and something like 8% lacked legal authorization according to a 2024-USC Dornside report.

And we're already getting reports of ICE activity as well as reports from San Bernardino, where the mayor has set up checkpoints.
