This whole thing felt a touch blasphemous to say the very least.

Notwithstanding, the idea of God in a wrestling match is pretty preposterous.

Or is it?

Today on wrestling curiosities, we are opening up the Bible

and turning to Genesis.

It is here we will find the tale of Jacob wrestling God as in

Jacob is wrestling God not Jacob is a wrestling God like JBL you get the idea

now a few interpretations of this story

suggest that it wasn't God that was wrestling.

Maybe he had in fact drafted an angel

to compete on his behalf.

Some say it was actually the spirit of the river that competed and not even God or an angel at all.

Some say it was merely a vision, maybe too much holy wine the night before.

I don't know. That being said we are going to go with the Protestant

theology. This is the one brought about by German professor of theology Martin Luther

and John Calvin who was kind of a big deal during the Protestant Reformation.

Now there's no religious bias in this podcast, I just want to be clear.

We've just decided to go with the thinking that God had a little bit of in-ring training before backlash in 2006 AD.
