hot lotto fraud scandal, orchestrated by Eddie Raymond Tipton. Tipton was a former information

security director at the Multistate Lottery Association, M-U-S-L, the very organization

responsible for administering lotteries across multiple states. Given his position, Tipton had

insider access to the software that generated random winning numbers. From 2005 to 2013,

he manipulated the system inserting a malicious code that allowed him to predict the winning numbers on certain dates.

Once he had rigged the system, he recruited accomplices, including his brother and close friends,

to purchase tickets with the predetermined numbers.

Over the years, Tipton and his associates attempted to cash in multiple fraudulent winning

tickets, accumulating millions of dollars.

But greed got the best of them.

One of their most significant wins, a $16.5 million jackpot, raised red flags when an anonymous

person attempted to claim it through a network

of intermediaries. Investigators began to unravel the web of deception, tracing the ticket back to Tipton.

He was arrested, and in 2017, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison admitting to rigging multiple lottery drawings.
