0:05.7	indictment watch again with Donald Trump the confirmed active target of
0:10.4	special counsel Jack Smith's January 6th investigation. New tonight a key
0:15.4	witness has met with Jack Smith's team and it sheds new light on what
0:19.4	prosecutors are focusing on. NBC News confirming a former high ranking Trump
0:24.4	DOJ official has spoken with investigators although he has yet to testify
0:29.4	before the grand jury. Richard Donahue did speak with the Congressional select
0:33.9	committee probing January 6th and he gave direct testimony about multiple
0:38.3	aspects of Trump's plans to steal the election. According to Donahue, Trump wanted
0:43.5	his DOJ to falsely tell legislators and battleground states that the election
0:48.6	was corrupt. You also noted that Mr. Rosen said to Mr. Trump, quote,
0:54.6	DOJ can't and won't snap its fingers and change the outcome of the election.
0:59.0	How did the president respond to that, sir? He responded very quickly and said
1:03.1	essentially that's not what I'm asking you to do. What I'm just asking you to do is
1:07.1	just say it was corrupt and leave the rest to me in the Republican
1:10.0	Congress. And now that was just one part of Trump's plan when the acting
1:16.9	attorney general refused Trump hatched a new scheme. Three days before the
1:21.6	insurrection, Trump summoned the DOJ's top brass to the Oval Office and he
1:26.8	floated the idea of installing a loyalist Jeffrey Clark as attorney general.
1:32.6	Now it was a monumental showdown evoking memories of Nixon's Saturday night
1:37.6	massacre. Donahue and others threatened to resign.
1:41.6	Pat Sippelone said, yeah, this is a murder suicide pact and we resigned immediately.
