We start with breaking news on Donald Trump's coup

charges and the United States Supreme Court.

Late today, Donald Trump's lawyers urging the United States Supreme Court to delay hearing arguments on a monumental question,

whether he has absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for his actions trying to overturn the

2020 election.

Trump's new filing coming in response to Special Counsel Jack Smith who's urging

the High Court to fast fast track this case.

Today, Trump's lawyers telling the court it should wait

until a lower court has ruled,

while questioning why Smith wants to move so quickly.

Arguing that Smith's proposal would lead to a quote,

radically compressed timetable

and that quote, the special counsel

identifies no compelling reason

for the extraordinary haste he proposes.

At another point, Trump's lawyers quoting the phrase,

haste makes waste.

This is the core Trump legal strategy across criminal cases.

Delay, delay, delay.

And today, Trump's lawyers arguing that the case should first go through the DC Circuit Court of Appeals, which is

already scheduled to hear all arguments on January 9th, because that is part of quote ordinary procedures
