Getting out of the military is really tough.

You go from being a part of a team to going solo,

and if you think about it, when you join up

in the military you're taught to shoot move and communicate together as a team.

Then you go to war and you fight, you bleed, you die together as a team.

Then once your time in the military is over everyone goes their separate ways people retire they go to different units moved to different bases

That sense of collective identity or team that was built through all of that training goes away in an instant.

And so many of our men and women in uniform end up feeling alone.

In some cases you can end up feeling like an exile

in your own country.

You're not surrounded by your battle buddies anymore.

And I see a lot of men and women get stuck at this point in their transition out of the military

and really, really struggle.

It's like they can't leave that part of them behind.

And I totally get it.

Being a warrior or your experience of war

will never ever go away. never leaves your heart it never leaves your mind it's

always with you in some way shape or form but so many have a difficult time saying that.

They have a difficult time saying, okay, that was one phase of my life.

It was an important one.

It's one that will be with me forever, but it's time to step into the next phase.

And I think part of the reason for that is, is that a lot of former servicemen and women lack clarity on what their next mission is.
