But before that, I want to take a couple minutes to talk about Jonathan Charks.

Many of you know Charks from the Ringer, where he's worked as a staff writer since the Ringer began.

You've read his writing.

You've heard him on the Bill Simmons podcast or other ringer podcasts. And you've heard him come on this show a few times. You also probably know that John passed away this weekend after battling a

rare form of cancer for the past 18 months. And if you found out about his passing from a tweet or on Reddit or on his

Caring Bridge page, you maybe find your way to the comment section.

It's pretty striking stuff there.

John was, he was universally loved by his family, his wife, Melissa, son Jackson,

and their parents in Dallas.

He was also loved by his friends in Dallas, working as a sports writer where your work often happens at night

and on weekends that usually comes at a social life cost. John refused to let that happen.

In an industry that rewards you for being semi-plugged in at all times, I was

always impressed by John's way of refusing to play that game. He was also loved by many of us

who work in the NBA media space. John's writing felt effortless. You would read charts and
