| 0:00.0 | Chal friends, Katie here with a midweek travel update for you. I did one last week and people |
| 0:04.7 | seem to really like it. So I'm going to drop a little snack-sized episode, Aspuntino, |
| 0:09.8 | if you will, each week with insights, general travel tips and timely information for those of you |
| 0:15.1 | who are travelling soon. For this week's episode, I want to talk about the crowds in Italy that |
| 0:20.6 | we've been seeing |
| 0:21.3 | all over the internet and social media from last weekend. |
| 0:25.5 | Cinque Terre was at full capacity with people squash like little sardines lining up for the trains. |
| 0:30.9 | Talmina was in high season looking like a Taylor Swift concert. |
| 0:34.7 | And Rome, Venice and Florence, well, they're always busy, but especially |
| 0:37.9 | so last week. So, okay, yes, those crowds look pretty confronting, but I want everyone to |
| 0:45.3 | remember something because these are some of the most popular places to visit in Italy and |
| 0:51.1 | some may say the world. And last weekend was the May Day holiday weekend. |
| 0:56.9 | So of course they were all busier than usual. |
| 1:00.1 | Just like any tourist sites around the world are on a holiday weekend. |
| 1:04.1 | People come to Italy from all over Europe on this weekend and to top it all off, it was |
| 1:09.6 | the Free Museum Sunday when |
| 1:11.2 | major sites were open to everyone for no charge. So perhaps the crowds were quite predictable. |
| 1:19.2 | Another thing that happened was the April 25th celebrations, which is Liberation Day, |
| 1:24.3 | were also on that week. So people would have made a really long, long, |
| 1:28.0 | long weekend and made the most of it and went to explore their own country. |
| 1:33.0 | Then why not? |
| 1:33.7 | It's absolutely beautiful. |
