It wasn't something anyone ever tried to explain, and it was never treated like a problem that needed to be solved. It was simply part of

the environment, something that existed in the background the same way the house itself did.

Visitors never mentioned it, and over time even the family stopped paying attention to it,

unless it happened to make

itself known in a way that was harder to ignore. Most of the time, it didn't. What made it different

from the kinds of stories people usually tell was how consistent it felt without ever becoming intrusive.

There were no objects moving across rooms, no doors opening

or closing on their own, nothing that demanded a reaction. Instead, it showed up in smaller ways

that were easy to dismiss if you weren't looking for them, a shift in the air in a hallway that

had been still a moment before. The sense that someone had just passed through a room you knew had been empty.

The faint awareness of being watched that would appear just long enough to be noticed before fading again.

None of it felt threatening.

If anything, the opposite was true.

The presence never pushed, never lingered long enough to create

discomfort, and never did anything that suggested it was trying to be seen or heard. It stayed at the

edges of things, noticeable without ever becoming clear, and over time that made it easier to accept

rather than question. Because of that, it became something Kyle understood without needing to define.
