Summary

“Anti-racist” isn’t an identity, it’s actions. It’s doing the work of deconstructing the systems of racism we were all raised in. Systems that harm us all. It’s not about being a “good person” or not being called “racist”, it’s about genuinely interacting with the world to make it better. And yeah, we’re going to make mistakes while we do it. We’re going to blow it and get embarrassed, but that doesn’t mean we should stop trying. Ultimately, it’s not about us. It’s about living and growing in a society where Diversity, Equity and Inclusion aren’t just a department, but a way of life. To join me to talk about all this is the amazing Tony Nabors, the owner and principal consultant of Racial Equity Insights who’s spent the past 20 years working to move people and organizations from “hesitancy about racial equity” to confidence, as they learn how to be effective and action orientated allies. This is a great conversation. I hope you’ll join us. As always, if you find worth in what we do, please consider SUBSCRIBING to PoliticsGirl Premium. well-funded public schools.

And yet, we're trying to separate the public schools so we can keep white kids learning Christian stuff and like in the rich schools

0:15.2

That hurts everyone there are people who say we don't have affordable health care or education in this country because of racism which is is what you were speaking of, right?

0:24.0

There are certain white people that can't imagine paying to educate or keep black people healthy,

0:30.5

so they hold the entire society back in their disgusting attempt to punish black people.

0:36.0

I would also say that we're probably missing out on some of the greatest accomplishments and

inventions and innovations and innovations by holding people back because of racism because I can remember

so clearly sitting in the theater watching that movie hidden figures which if by the

way you haven't seen it it's a story about these brilliant black women who were instrumental in landing a man on the moon.

How many geniuses have we missed? How many problems could have been solved if we had allowed people to bring their

full gifts to the table instead of making them sit in another room because of

1:07.6

their color or honestly quite frankly their gender because women get

marginalized all the time too. We're just missing out and I feel like what you're trying to get us to understand with your work is that while we say we modern day liberal open-minded white people might not have specifically built this

1:25.4

house of racism we still live in it and we get the benefits from it and it's

1:30.0

actually we get harmed from it too so it's essential that we take ownership and

1:35.0

responsibility for what's happening in the house. If we're just thinking that

1:40.2

racism is done by those bad white people over there,

1:43.7

we're missing the point. Hello and welcome to the Politics Girl Podcast. I'm your host Lee McGowan. Let's get
