Summary

This week, we've got an elections update! Ahead of midterm elections, we're checking in with BuzzFeed News reporters on the Muslim candidates that ran for office this year. Talal Ansari gives us an update on everyone from Ilhan Omar to Rashida Tlaib and Abdul El Sayed. He tells us who's still in the running and what they're facing in their respective regions. Then, reporter Hannah Allam returns to the show to discuss her latest piece about Muslims in the Republican party.

This week we're going to check in on the political landscape of Muslims running for office in the midterms.

They were supportive, Ilhan Omar.

So we're going to be talking to two BuzzFeed News reporters. First, we're going to talk to Thalal al-Ai, who's going to update us on how Muslims did in some of the midterms.

And then we're going to talk to Hannah Alam, who just published this great piece where she examined why it's so hard for Muslim Republicans to stay in the party right now.

Last year, Thalal and Hannah published this really great piece, which is really comprehensive.

Basically, Hannah and I just started noticing through our Twitter feeds and just other just

observational things that a lot of Muslim

Americans, it seemed as though a lot of Muslim Americans were running for office at local level,

even for governor.

And it was a little surprising, you know, we've both grown up in the U.S.
