Today I want to take issue with a phrase that we use, maybe just in our head, but we use it.

And it's for those of you that are parents, grandparents, some form of parents, where you

justify your spending. You justify a quick switch of priorities and I would say priorities

with a lower case P because they

maybe aren't your actual priorities but we do it all for the children it's all

for the children and if you do something for the children how can you take issue with it at all?

Of course we would get our kids a car because we're doing it for the children.

Of course we would pay room and board and tuition and spending money and blah blah blah

blah when they go off to school because it's for the children.

Of course we would sign on their first

mortgage because it's for the children. Yeah, of course we would sign them up for

every activity under the sun because my word, it's for the children, you know?

And for the children's like a trump card.

How dare you think that you not spend the money and then somehow be hurting the children?

I've fallen prey to this line of thinking many times and I will many times again.

But when you're doing something for the children suddenly all of your other reasons, pros, cons,

rationales, explanations, justifications, priorities, they all kind of go out the window because my word,

it's for the children.

And, you know, how can you argue against that?

So check yourself and see if you aren't sometimes saying it's for the children
