Russian President Vladimir Putin is getting desperate with the war in Ukraine dragging into

its eighth month and a counteroffensive by Ukraine gaining background in a rare

televised address he called for a mobilization of reserve soldiers said to

number some 300,000. The first such call up since World War II.

To protect our motherland, its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Putin also backed sham votes in areas of Ukraine now occupied by Moscow.

They're expected to rubber-stamp joining Russia.

We will support the decision about the future which will be taken.

Man, anytime I hear a sentence end with the phrase since World War II, it makes me nervous.

I've got a couple of specific questions I know I want to get to, but first just what

was your reaction when Putin gave his big speech talking about the calling up the 300,000

threatening nuclear war?

Well, you know, Yogi Vera, who's a very famous Yankee and philosopher once said,

you come to the fork in the road, take it.

And I think that's Mr. Putin did. He had two options as things have gotten very, very

dismal for him for the last several weeks.
