Welcome to spinsters, a podcast where we are sadly leaving Pride Month,

but not before an interview that I absolutely loved.

So a couple of months ago, I talked to Sue Wix, who is a WMBA and Rutgers Legend.

And among her many accolades, she was also the first openly gay player in the WMBA.

She came out in 2002, and that was a long, long time before Nike had a

rainbow line that dropped every June and Adidas was pinning Pride tweets and the league itself

had a float in Pride. I wanted to know what that was like coming out when there was really no precedent for it in American basketball.

Sue retired from basketball after the 2002 season,

and she's now the owner of an oyster farm called Violet Cove Oysters.

It's kind of my semi-off-the-grid fantasy that she's living.
