In my bar at home, I have a picture of Antonin Scalia and myself talking in his Supreme Court chambers.

And it's a moment that I will never forget, the moment I enjoy looking at, especially after his passing.

He does not seem annoyed, Ramon.

He does not seem, he's delighted to be there.

Delighted to be there. We'd had cigars a night before at the university club where I was staying in D.C.

He and me and Clarence Thomas. I was a law school student at the time. I was working in a law firm in Washington, D.C., and he could tell I was a law school student at the time. I was working in a law firm in Washington, D.C.,

and he could tell I was a dork for his writings

and for the Supreme Court and the lore of it all.

At some point, he said, boy, you're really into this.

Yes, there I am.

And he said, would you like to come to my chambers?

Absolutely.

And so rather than just a high by and then me going on a window, I said, I can come tomorrow.

You said, okay, how does four o'clock sound?

I said, fine.

I said, awkward question.

Can I bring my wife?

She had just graduated law school.

She's getting ready to start, and she was visiting.

He said, sure.

And I said, second awkward question, can I bring a photographer?
