38 years ago this week.

I remember where I was.

For people my age and I'm 54.

That was kind of our John F. Kennedy assassination moment.

We remember where we were.

At least I do.

We will all remember that day. It was a shattering of a sense of innocence, especially because that particular

mission had accomplished its goal of getting young people re-inspired by the space shuttle, by space travel.

You know, it had become commonplace. It had become kind of boring, right?

We'd been to the moon. We'd done all these things.

So they bring in this school teacher, Kristen McColliffe.

And I loved my teachers.

And my teachers loved teaching, and they loved Kristen McColliffe.

So we all knew the story.

So if there's no other name you knew on that mission, it was Krista McCullough.

She was a common school teacher.

She was going into space.

This was awesome.

It was a PR campaign that worked.
