Earlier this week, Melman Vaughn called the show on the Black Line.

And Jim Mud, our creative director, thought he sounded like a black version of Civil War historian Shelby Foot.

We played clips of both men, and as it turns out, Jim has a pretty keen ear.

And we were all amazed at how astute his hearing was to catch that audio.

Some people also said he sounded like Alan Toussaint

in the 14-minute rendition of

Southern Knights.

If you go to YouTube and look up Alan Tucson, Southern Knights,

the 14-minute, he's behind a piano, and he tells you the story about how he wrote that song

that you know of as a Glenn Camel song.

Anyway, so we played audio of both of these men, Melman Vaughn on the Black Line, and Civil

War historian Shelby Foot, who I love.

We got a lot of people out there in our listening audience who really enjoyed Shelby Foote as well.

And I heard from so many of you.

So we found an interview from 1983 featuring Shelby Foote.

This was about a decade before he was on Ken Burns' PBS Documentary Civil War, which is when

most people came to find out about him. If you haven't seen the documentary, go find it. It is a

very, very good watch. Anyway, here is that interview with Shelby Foote, who I love. Enjoy.

Shelby Foote is the author of several novels set in the South.

He spent 20 years researching and writing a three-volume history of the Civil War, and has now returned to writing fiction.
