We will, in the course of this morning, be returning to some of the territory that Tom Swarbrick has just been steering you through,

certainly in the context of cannabis, legalisation, stroke, legislation.

And I'm also drawn to the tale of the parents launching court action over Christian school assemblies.

That is something of a weather vein for me, by which I mean it spins around furiously,

depending upon external circumstances. I want to talk a little bit about no deal Brexit, but I want to do it as ever,

or no, not as ever actually, as of recent developments in a very broad and roundabout way.

Because there are no specifics, this is the weirdest thing. As the Pips begin to squeak, detail

becomes ever more important and yet it would appear that running away from detail has almost become government policy. So no scraps, I don't think, simply insights and speculations.

But I just want to take a minute, if I may, to tell you something a little bit embarrassing.

Why is it embarrassing?

I don't know if you were listening to the news bulletin just then.

I hope you were with Simon.

If you weren't, then you'll have missed the news that three people have been killed and 15 injured

after a gunman attacked a food festival in California.

And I just did something a bit disgusting.

I think it's important to note when these things happen,

because if you don't,

then it possibly represent a sort of inexorable slide

into really ugly, ugly territory.

A tiny little bit of me, just heard that story there.
