Summary

From the first night, things felt wrong. The front door jammed only when she tried to unlock it. Whenever she used the hair-dryer, the power for the entire unit went out. Neighbors complained about loud nighttime hammering, and the landlord blamed her unit even though no one was home. One night, the activity got personal. She heard soft footsteps shuffling up and down the apartment’s long hallway. As she lay in bed, the mattress sank beside her as if someone unseen had slipped under the covers. She bolted upright, stayed awake until sunrise, and moved out soon after. Whatever crossed the street from the cemetery clearly wanted company—just not the living kind.
