Several years ago, I was speaking in a meeting one evening about the matter of personal witnessing,

sharing your faith, a desire to see others come to faith in Christ.

And I talked to the people about having a burden for souls, God's heart, for sinners.

When the meeting was concluded, a very kind Christian woman came to talk

with me. She was extremely sincere, very well-meaning, but I'll never forget that conversation because

she said to me, I appreciate your message, however, which by the way is never what a preacher

wants to hear, but she said, however, there was a word you said tonight that I don't believe.

And I said, what was that? She said, you talked about a burden for souls. I said, yes, ma'am.

She said, I don't believe in a burden for souls. I don't believe that God ever intends us to live

under a burden. I believe God lifts the burdens. God takes the burdens. It doesn't intend for us to have a burden.

And I said to her at that moment, the Lord really helped me because really he was teaching me

something, even through her question. I said to her, there is a burden that God takes and there is a

burden that God gives.

And those two must not be confused.
