In 2014, San Francisco State University published a study about the perceived value between spending and happiness.

And what the study showed was that spending money on life experiences had a much higher long-term value than spending the same money on objects.

Oddly enough though, even though the participants understood and agreed that experiences

are better than objects as far as dollar value goes.

They grossly underestimated the value of an experience before doing it.

It's like the experience couldn't be quantified to a dollar figure.

The report suggests that objects being tangible things are easy to hold up and say

this cost me this much money, whereas memories are difficult to attach to an actual dollar value.

You wouldn't say, you know, look, I hiked to this falls and it cost me this much money.

But when all is said and done, the studies show that we will receive a higher value from life experiences than we will

from objects of equal dollar value.

So even those experiences that are uncomfortable in the moment, they provide a learning opportunity or at least an anecdotal story

that we can share with our friends and connect with people and that is

fulfillment. And I really didn't want to kill it, but I also really didn't want it on me.

So we had this like hour-long standoff with this Huntsman spider.

They're very fast. They are so fast. And when it started climbing up the
