Inspired by the new hard-line government in Israel to overhaul the justice system, have

prompted a series of huge protests in recent weeks.

With tens of thousands of people taking to the streets claiming it would mark the end

of democracy.

Now the nation's attorney general has waded into the debate, saying the plan could give

Benjamin Netanyahu's government unlimited power.

Gali Baharov-Miarra wrote a 112-page opinion to the Justice Minister, arguing the changes

would gravely damage Israel's system of checks and balances.

However, Israel's minister for the economy, near Barkat, told the BBC that many of the

changes would align Israel's system with those of other democracies.
