Israeli military strikes killed at least 17 Palestinians across Gaza earlier today,

as Israel stepped up bombardments in central parts of the enclave.

Months of attempts to negotiate a ceasefire have brought few results and negotiations are now on

hold. Mediator Cutter, seen as a critical player to negotiations,

has suspended its efforts until the sides are prepared to make concessions. Meanwhile, a ceasefire

between Israel and Hamas's Lebanese ally, Hezbollah, took effect before dawn yesterday. The

ceasefire was brokered by the U.S. and France, and racist hopes of ending more than a year of cross-border

strikes. It appears to have held in the day or so since coming into effect.

A number of President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet nominees have been targeted with violent threats,

according to Trump's transition team yesterday. The threats occurred on Tuesday

night and yesterday morning and included bomb threats and swatting, Trump transition spokesperson

Caroline Levitt said in a statement. Swatting refers to attacks where people falsely report

emergencies or crimes in progress to police, sending them to locations where no emergency occurred.

In response to a USA Today request for comment, an FBI official said the Bureau is actively

investigating and is aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming
