Israel has conducted airstrikes in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip overnight.

That follows an unusual burst of violence from Palestinian militant groups in Lebanon,

who said they had fired dozens of rockets into Israeli territory.

Military analysts say the rocket attack was the largest since 2006,

when Israel fought a 34-day war with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

According to journal contributor Aaron Boxerman in Jerusalem,

Israeli security forces say the proximate cause for last night's exchange of fire

was an Israeli police raid at the Al-Axamasque in Jerusalem Wednesday.
