Even by recent standards, this has been a remarkable day in the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Overnight there was heavy fire exchanged by both sides,

with a number of people reported to have been killed.

But then, in the early hours of the morning, US time, President Trump posted on social media that a ceasefire was coming into effect.

The Israelis said they supported it, and the Iranians said they would stop their attacks if Israel did the same.

But then came doubts. The Israeli military said

it had identified missiles launched from Iran and intercepted them over northern Israel. For their

part, Iran denied firing any missiles, but the Israelis said they would respond with force.

Well, speaking in very direct language before taking off for the NATO summit in the Netherlands,

President Trump said he was particularly angry with Israel, but that he also blamed Iran for
